DeSantis Jokes About New York’s Impact on Florida

Clear Facts
- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis humorously suggested that a socialist win in New York could boost Florida’s property values.
- DeSantis criticized the policies of Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, comparing them unfavorably to former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio.
- DeSantis has proposed a constitutional amendment to eliminate property taxes in Florida by 2026.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently made a quip that has sparked discussions about the potential impact of political shifts in New York on Florida’s real estate market. During a bill-signing ceremony, DeSantis commented on the victory of Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani in New York City, suggesting that it could lead to an exodus from the city.
DeSantis remarked, “If this socialist mayor candidate wins – you’re gonna see real estate value skyrocket even more in Palm Beach, because people are gonna get out of that city.” He further criticized Mamdani’s policies, stating, “As bad as DeBlasio was, this guy is like going to be way, way, worse.”
The governor’s comments come amid a broader trend of migration from states like New York and California to Florida. Florida’s property values have already increased significantly over a decade, ending in July 2022.
In addition to his comments on New York’s political landscape, DeSantis has been vocal about his plans to reform Florida’s tax system. He proposed a reduction in property taxes and aims to introduce a constitutional amendment to eliminate property taxes by 2026. DeSantis argued, “You have to just keep writing a check to the government just for the privilege of using your own property. That’s an anomaly. That’s not the way good tax policy should be.”
DeSantis didn’t shy away from criticizing Mamdani’s approach to law enforcement, saying, “He doesn’t think that you should have law enforcement in dangerous parts of the city, that you should send in social workers. See how that works out for you. It ain’t going to work out well.”
Throughout his tenure, DeSantis has enacted several pieces of conservative legislation, including restrictions on abortion and measures against Disney’s control over the Reedy Creek Improvement District. His leadership has been marked by significant cultural and political battles, further solidifying his national profile.

Careful who you insult. GULFTAINER is in Florida next to a US Nuke Sub Base.
Gulftainer awarded 35-year concession of Port Canaveral’s container and cargo terminal in Florida
* Growth is in line with Gulftainer’s vision to expand to 35 terminals in five continents by 2020
* New terminal is expected to contribute more than US$630 million to the local economy of Florida
The bad news…

Bravo! The only reason Florida has property tax is to fund county first responders, etc. Why not allow counties impose a one cent sales tax to cover this expense? consumption tax is the best way to solve this problem. Just say’in.
