Former Vice President Kamala Harris found herself at the center of social media criticism following a Fourth of July post that many found to be in poor taste. Her message, which was accompanied by a photo that notably cropped out President Joe Biden, struck a somber tone that didn’t sit well with many users.
The image shared on social media depicted Harris alongside her husband, Doug Emhoff, as they watched fireworks from a White House balcony. Notably absent from the frame were President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, despite their presence at the event.
“Kamala cropping Joe out is very symbolic,” commented Link Lauren, a former adviser to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who highlighted the exclusion with a wider shot showing the Bidens standing nearby.
The message Harris shared read: “This Fourth of July, I am taking a moment to reflect. Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better. But I love our country — and when you love something, you fight for it. Together, we will continue to fight for the ideals of our nation.”
Critics were quick to point out the inappropriateness of such a message on a day meant for celebration. A Republican National Committee spokeswoman remarked, “Feeling grateful we didn’t end up with a President who posts ‘things are gonna get worse’ on the 4th of July.”
A radio host also chimed in with disapproval, stating, “Kamala sets a new record for the worst 4th of July message ever.”
This incident comes at a time when Harris’s support among Democrats appears to be waning. A June poll revealed that only 13% of Democrats would back her in the 2028 primary, a significant drop from the 37% support she enjoyed in November.
