  • Maryland Democratic lawmakers staged a sit-in at a Baltimore ICE facility after being denied entry for a tour.
  • Democratic Rep. Sarah Elfreth referred to illegal immigrants in ICE custody as her “constituents.”
  • Republican Rep. Andy Harris criticized the sit-in, accusing Democrats of prioritizing publicity over safety.

In a bold move, members of Maryland’s Democratic congressional delegation staged a sit-in at a Baltimore Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. This protest came after they were refused entry for a tour, which they claimed was intended to inspect the conditions faced by detainees.

Democratic Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks led the charge, accusing ICE of maintaining inadequate conditions for illegal immigrants held there. ICE, however, has denied these allegations.

Rep. Sarah Elfreth, a key figure in the protest, described the illegal immigrants as her “constituents,” despite their lack of legal status. In a video shared on social media, Elfreth stated, “Our constituents, many of my constituents have gone through this facility and we’ve only found out because their families, their loved ones have reached out to us and we are doing everything we can on their behalf.”

The delegation’s attempt to gain access to the facility was thwarted, leading to a sit-in outside. Democratic Rep. Kweisi Mfume explained, “We were not allowed entry, so we had to stand outside, bang on the door, and ultimately sit in front of the door.”

ICE officials clarified that the lawmakers were denied entry because the building serves as a temporary holding area, not a long-term detention facility. The facility had previously held Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 gang member and human trafficker, before his deportation to El Salvador.

Republican Rep. Andy Harris criticized the Democratic lawmakers for their actions, stating, “These Maryland lawmakers didn’t lift a finger to stop illegal immigrants and MS-13 gangs from pouring into our state but now they’re staging ‘sit-in’ stunts for cameras to keep illegals in Maryland.”

The sit-in has sparked a broader debate on immigration policies, with a poll indicating that voters trust Republicans to handle illegal immigration more effectively than Democrats by a significant margin.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin commented on the situation, suggesting that the lawmakers could have simply scheduled a tour, emphasizing that such requests must be part of legitimate congressional oversight activities.

The protest at the ICE facility highlights the ongoing tension between political parties over immigration policies and enforcement, with both sides standing firm on their positions.

All of these so called legislators are clowns and idiots. They have no regard for anyone, but themselves and care nothing about protecting the rights of rightful citizens that make up their constituents.

Maryland State Rep. Sarah Elfreth referred to the illegals as constituents. Does that mean she’s admitting to voter fraud? Someone might want to check out Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District and its constituents and also Elfreth’s own activities since her tenure.

I’m gonna make a swag and say that just like their counterparts in noo joizee did a while back – no one argues that they do have oversight – but they also have to follow established protocols and procedures in order to do so. Those policies are to insure their safety as well as that of the staff AND those who are confined.

The democrats remind me of a circular firing squad. Can’t they see that these childish stunts only cause their party
to look stupid? And they wonder just why their approval rating is in the toilet!
