Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard Lead Charge Against Musk’s Work Accomplishments Request

In a surprising turn of events, federal agencies have been advised to disregard a controversial email from Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk’s email, distributed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), required federal employees to submit a list of their work accomplishments from the past week. The email also contained a contentious clause suggesting that failure to respond would be interpreted as a resignation.

FBI Director Kash Patel took a firm stance against the directive. He instructed his employees to pause any responses to Musk’s inquiry, emphasizing that the FBI would handle its own evaluations. “The FBI, through the Office of the Director, is in charge of all of our review processes,” Patel stated, ensuring employees that any necessary coordination would be conducted internally.

Similarly, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard advised employees within the Intelligence Community to ignore the email. She highlighted the “inherently sensitive and classified nature of our work” as a reason for non-compliance. The State Department echoed this sentiment, with acting undersecretary of state for management, Tibor P. Nagy, clarifying that the department would respond on behalf of its employees.

However, not all agencies reacted uniformly. The Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency reportedly encouraged responses, while some employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) were told to draft responses but hold off on sending them. NOAA leadership cautioned employees, suggesting the email might be a phishing attempt, pending verification of its authenticity.

The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) voiced strong opposition to Musk’s demands. They advised employees to consult their supervisors and questioned the legality of the resignation clause. “OPM and Elon Musk do not have legal authority to take personnel action based on this request,” the NFFE stated, labeling the move as an intimidation tactic.

Concerns about the email’s legality and data security have left many federal employees uncertain. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) employee expressed anxiety over potential job losses resulting from the inquiry. Meanwhile, a member of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) shared feelings of distress, contemplating resignation due to the added pressure.

As federal agencies navigate this unprecedented situation, the debate over Musk’s authority and the implications of his demands continues to unfold.

    Justifying your existence in a position is common sense, there are however situations where exemptions are justified. Such as those Musk stated in the memo, sensitive information, and other conditions that may have unintended consequences if revealed, must be protected. Again shaking up the status quo is the first step in making change. Change that is sorely needed.

    I initially liked the action of Mr. Musk and his DOGE email request for value added by federal employees. However this action should have been directed toward the management of these various Federal Agencies. Staff operates at the request of management – therefore summaries of the contribution by staff are the responsibility of the Director and his/her management.

    It’s a pretty simple & plain request regarding what Musk is asking for. People are making this more complicated than what it needs to be. It is NOT about revealing sensitive information that entails what was done for specific cases they’ve handled; Musk is merely asking what have they accomplished for that week. His request doesn’t demand intricate data… just what they’ve accomplished.

    Sure, managers within a department are ultimately responsible for such things, however… IF management is NOT doing their job in evaluating their staff’s activities and productivity, then someone else should replace these managers as well. The request is a simple one. IMHO, this falls under what a summary of personnel or audit is about; it’s a review of competency and the justification to keep an organization operational or any department within it. Musk has proven to be a good overseer in his various business ventures, so he knows when and how to make such evaluations by sending out this strong request.

    IF personnel/employees within a company are not willing to provide a simple review of what they’ve done, maybe they’re hiding something. In that case, a more thorough investigation may be required of them. The TV show called COPS is a good example of giving an overall review of what was done. The officers do not give out sensitive details if they believe it would impede their ability to apprehend their targeted group or individual. The same applies to what Musk is asking for regarding their past week’s performance; nothing more.

    I understand the departments like the FBI and CIA, where their work requires confidentiality to not comply with this request. However, it behooves their Directors, Patel and Gabbard to properly oversee their departments and ensure that work is being done in a productive manner. As for the rest of the government employees: Welcome to the real world! Evaluations of work performance are common. When I took over an office I had employees keep a record of work done and time spent. It helped me to evaluate performance and job necessity and possible reorganization of responsibilities for better effectiveness. The bottom line for workers and unions – if you are doing a credible job, what’s the problem? What are you afraid of?

    Number one! Insist on “work in the office”. Then managers and supervisors won’t need to ask if their employees are doing what they are being paid to do.

    The Heads of these agencies have had about 25 years to get a handle on this problem ! Like Congress with their posturing and hearings BUT no positive actions >>The real truth may never come forth due to the need to cover All their Asses >>>
