Gwyneth Paltrow, the acclaimed actress and founder of Goop, recently shared an amusing anecdote about a White House screening of her 1996 film, Emma. The Jane Austen adaptation was screened for then-President Bill Clinton, who, according to Paltrow, fell asleep during the movie.

During an interview on a popular show, Paltrow was asked to confirm the rumor about Clinton’s reaction to her film.

Is it true that Bill Clinton passed out asleep during a White House screening of Emma?” the host queried, eliciting laughter from the actress.

True. He was snoring right in front of me. I was like, wow, I guess this going to be a real hit movie,” Paltrow responded, her tone light and jesting.

She then added, “but it was, so there you go, Bill Clinton!

Despite the former President’s less than enthusiastic response, Emma proved to be a success. The film won an Academy Award for its score and was nominated for its costume design. It also grossed approximately $22.2 million domestically on a $6 million production budget.

Paltrow’s career continued to flourish post-Emma, with the actress working on several more films with the studio Miramax, including Shakespeare in Love, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Bounce.
