During a recent visit to “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon”, renowned comedian Jerry Seinfeld provided candid insights into his relationship with British actor Hugh Grant. The pair found themselves clashing during the filming of “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story”, with tensions escalating to a point that Seinfeld was open to discussing publicly.
In the movie, Grant portrayed the legendary Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice behind Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger. Seinfeld’s revelations about working with Grant were nothing short of surprising. “We had lots of fights. He’s a pain in the ass to work with. He’s horrible,” Seinfeld humorously noted.
“He lets you know beforehand that ‘You’re gonna hate this.’ And he’s absolutely right.”
Despite the on-set tensions, the frosty relationship between the two stars began to warm after a shared dining experience. The comedian recalled the evening spent with his counterpart.
“But one night he and I had dinner together … We shot for 10 weeks, and that night that he and I had dinner — and we got drunk having dinner — that was the greatest night,” Seinfeld shared. “Because he’s so cool and he’s that English thing, you know, that wit. He looks good in a jacket … he’s one of those guys. I love those guys.”
Interestingly, Seinfeld also mentioned that Hugh Grant was not his first choice for the iconic Ravenscroft role. However, a phone call from Grant, in which he delivered an impromptu audition while sipping a glass of wine, was enough to sway the comedian’s decision.
“I did not think of Hugh Grant for the part. And I love Hugh Grant so much. But he called and he said, ‘I want to be in the Pop-Tart movie,’” Seinfeld remembered. “So he did an audition on his phone — with a glass of wine in the other hand. Like I cared what the audition was! I said, ‘Yeah, sure, you’re Tony the Tiger, sure.’”
